Energy Super, with over $5.8 billion in funds under management, has awarded a circa $400 million Australian equities mandate to Dalton Nicol Reid, a boutique Australian equity investment manager.
Energy Super’s Chair Mark Williamson said the mandate was part of the Fund’s strategy to work with investment managers that added value.
“Dalton Nicol Reid were able to exhibit the outstanding qualities needed to achieve investment success, including robust corporate governance, realistic strategies to achieve returns, an ease of administration, and effective cost management,” he said.
“We look forward to an ongoing and successful partnership that helps us deliver consistent and above average returns to our members.”
Dalton Nicol Reid CEO Robert White said this win demonstrated the confidence institutional investors had in the firm’s ability to deliver long-term investment performance.
“Our strong focus on quality enhances returns when combined with a thorough valuation overlay,” he said.
“This process combined with good alignment within the professional investment team has helped create a track record for managing portfolios that have historically outperformed the market.”
“This mandate is a clear signal to the investment community that high quality active Australian Equities Managers will continue to be trusted to strengthen returns for members. Australian super funds have historically invested circa 30% of their funds in Australian Equities and the ability to deliver outperformance in this important segment will be highly valued.”
The Dalton Nicol Reid flagship Australian Equities High Conviction Portfolio posted a 4.4% outperformance of its S&P ASX200 benchmark for the year ended 30 April 2015 with 12 year outperformance of 4.0%pa.
